Tobias Crisp was born in London in 1600, and was educated at Cambridge and Oxford. He became rector of Brinkworth, Wiltshire in 1627. In the years that followed he became a well-loved preacher of free grace. People came from far and wide, and as many as a hundred people were entertained in his home at one time. He had a rich experience and clear knowledge of the free grace of God in Christ. A father of thirteen children, he died of small-pox in 1642 at the age of 42.
