we do not see many birds this time of year-we do see these american golden finches now but later they become reddish in color

The bird in you picture is a different species, house finch (male). The goldfinch is the only species of finches whos males change color. In summer they are bright yellow, in winter males and females look the same, grey/drab olive.

I suppose in the Winter months the goldfinch do not come to our bird feeder since I have no winter photos of this little bird-thanks for the information

Yes! This can be a female any time of the year or a male in winter.
