I had a typical day alone with myself. Carol did call me from Denver this morning when her planed landed. She said there was some delay due to rain but she made it to Denver, no plane wreck. I told Carol she sounded tired, she had not recovered from her three days of work. She told she plans to go to bed early tonight. Hopefully Carol will get some rest while she is out West visiting family.
I did leave the house late this morning to get some food items and to visit thrift stores in search of old used books to ADD to our family library.
What I am going to do in listing the used books I got today is place them in the context of our collection-I usually buy used books that go into a collection by either the same writer or the same subject. For example the first used book I bought today was or is titled, 'The Essential Margaret Fuller' Margaret Fuller Edited By Jeffrey Stelle. I added this volume to these books already in our library-
'Woman in the Nineteenth Century' by Margaret Fuller introduction by Bernard Rosenthal
'Margaret Fuller: A New American Life' biography by Megan Marshall
'The Lives Of Margaret Fuller: A Biography' by John Matteson
'Minerva and the Muse: A Life Of Margaret Fuller' by Joan von Mehren
I bought used today a book titled, 'Woman In Sexist Society: Studies in Power and Powerlessness' Edited By Vivian Gornick & Barbara K. Moran. I will add this used book to one of my favorite reads of last year titled, 'The Odd Woman and the City: A Memoir by Vivian Gornick.
I bought used today a book titled, 'Onward And Upward In The Garden' essays by Katharine S. White Edited And With An Introduction By E.B. White. I will add this book to this book in our library, 'Onward And Upward: A Biography of Katharine S. White' by Linda H. Davis.
I also bought these used books today at thrift stores-
'The Lost City of the Monkey God' Travel Adventure book by Douglas Preston
'History of Art Criticism' by Lionello Venturi Translated from the Italian by Charles Marriott
'The Pickup' a novel by Nadine Gordimer (I collect the works of Nadine Gordimer.)
'The Glass Palace' a novel by Amitav Ghosh (this is a paperback and I already have a hardback of this novel in our library)
'Barkskins' a novel by Annie Proulx (I have a hardback edition of this novel, the one I bought today is a paperback edition)
'Merry Men' a novel by Carolyn Chute a hardback edition (I have been reading a paperback edition of this novel by Chute recently)
So these are the used books I bought today at thrift stores. I have been looking through these books this evening and plan to go to bed early. I will close to feel wasted.
