"Stories In An Almost Classical Mode" by Harold Brodkey
"The Tunnel" a novel by William H. Gass
"The Royal Family" a novel by William T. Vollmann
"Laura Warholic or, The Sexual Intellectual" a novel by Alexander Theroux
"The Complete Stories of J. G. Ballard" Introduction By Martin Amis
This evening when not wandering my cell I have been reading from "The Royal Family" by Vollmann and a short story by Harold Brodkey in his book "Stories In An Almost Classical Mode". I was looking through these novels to see what I could read out loud in a video. One finds such rich modernistic prose in these works.
I also looked at this afternoon one of the used books I found today at the Friends of the Library Used Books Sale titled, "Idols of Perversity: Fantasies Of Feminine Evil In Fin-De-Siecle Culture" by Bram Dijkstra. I was so surprise to find this book today since it was on my list in Amazon to buy someday. This volume "Idols Of Perversity" is referred to a lot in a book I have been reading titled, "Sexual Anarchy: Gender And Culture At The Fin Se Siecle" by Elaine Showalter. To me we have to read outside our comfort zone.
So the evening goes by. I do not know when Carol plans to call me from the Southwest. She is three hours behind me. I am sure Lou and Maggie are keeping Nonie on the go all day. Carol loves being a Grandma.
I am not sure if I can read tonight anything since my mind is wasted. I plan to go to bed early tonight. I volunteer at the library book nook tomorrow from 10 AM till 1 PM. I plan to help for a couple of hours at the Friends of the Library used books sale after I do my shrift at the book nook.
This coming Sunday is Father's Day. I wonder if I will hear from any of our three children on Father's Day. I am a husband, father and grandfather. I am an old man. My days are numbered.
I will close to feel at a loss.
