Lawrence Durrell

Yesterday while in Grand Rapids I visited a used books store and bought four used books (which I paid way too much money for!). One the used books I bought was a biography titled, "Through The Dark Labyrinth: A Biography of Lawrence Durrell" by Gordon Bower. I recently bought used another biography written by Gordon Bower titled, "Pursued by Furies: A Life of Malcolm Lowry". I came down in the lower level to collect the books I have by Lawrence Durrell to put with the biography I bought on his life. I have these used books by Durrell in our library.

"Bitter Lemons" a novel by Lawrence Durrell

"Pope Joan" Adapted from the Greek of Emmanuel Royidis by Lawrence Durrell

"Selected Poems" by Lawrence Durrell

"Monsieur of The Prince of Darkness" a novel by Lawrence Durrell

"Mountolive" Book 3 of The Alexandria Quartet by Lawrence Durrell

"Justine" Book 1 of The Alexandria Quartet by Lawrence Durrell

"Balthazar" Book 2 of The Alexandra Quartet by Lawrence Durrell

"Clea" Book 4 of The Alexandra Quartet by Lawrence Durrell

"The Greek Islands" travel book by Lawrence Durrell

Also in the book "Inventing Paradise: The Greek Journey 1937-47" biography/travel by Edward Keeley. In this travel/biography describes his time traveling the Greek Islands with Henry Miller and Lawrence Durrell.

In the travel memoir by Henry Miller titled "The Colossus Of Maroussi" Miller writes about traveling with Durrell through Greece and the Greek Islands.

So Time goes by for me this rainy stormy Sunday afternoon. My wife is taking a nap and I am down in the lower level messing with my books. Earlier today I was reading another used book I bought yesterday titled, "Aubrey Beardsley: An Account Of His Life" by Miriam J. Benkovitz. I have another biography on Beardsley in our library titled, "Beardsley: A Biography" by Stanley Weintraub. I paid yesterday $11.00 dollars for this used biography on the life of Beardsley by Benkovitz. This morning in checking on Amazon how much I would pay for this same biography I discovered that it would have cost me three cents! plus postage so $5.00 dollars. I have learned my lesson today to never buy any more used books in East Town. What I spent yesterday for four used books I could have bought at least twenty-five if not more used books from thrift stores. Makes me sick when I waste money that could have gone to help the poor. When I buy used books from Mission thrift stores, Goodwill thrift stores or Salvation Army thrift stores I know my money is going to help the downtrodden.

Yesterday I bought a used book from Argos titled, "Stories In Almost Classical Mode" by Harold Brodkey. I have two other used books by Brodkey in our library.

"This Wild Darkness: The Story Of My Death" by Harold Brodkey

"The Runaway Soul" a novel by Harold Brodkey

Well, I suppose I will close to put my books away and face the coming End.
