a state of mind

It is 2:20 PM Friday afternoon here in West Michigan. It is a cold sunny afternoon today. Spring is slowly approaching here in Michigan.

I volunteered at our library used books store today from 10 o'clock AM till 1 o'clock PM. The store was not busy nor was it slow either. When not helping people with their purchases I read from a book titled, 'Unity And Continuity In Covenantal Thought: A Study in the Reformed Tradition to the Westminster Assembly' by Andrew A. Woolsey [Reformed Historical-Theological Studies].

Carol just got home from having lunch with old nursing friends.

I have no plans for the rest of the day. I most likely read my books and wait for nightfall. I did bring home from the Book Nook one used book today to ADD to our library-

'Robert Oppenheimer: A Life Inside the Center' a biography by Ray Monk.

I have another biography written by Ray Monk titled, 'Ludwig Wittgenstein-The Duty Of Genius'.

Last night I read late into the night William T. Vollmann's new novel 'The Lucky Star'. Well I have to close to talk to Carol before she goes to bed to take a nap. She works tonight and tomorrow night.

I plan to look at this afternoon from a book titled, 'The Austrian Mind: An Intellectual and Social History 1848-1938' by William M. Johnston.

Carol found for me a used book at the Zeeland Public Library titled, 'Cane' by Jean Toomer Edited By Rudolph P. Byrd & Henry Louis Gates Jr. [A Norton Critical Edition]. I have never heard of this book 'Cane' by Jean Toomer. Well time to jump ship and swim to the shore.

Is bigger better? Or is bigger not better at all? Or maybe it's just like a lot of good and bad mixed together? All are true, and not true, but they're definitely more enjoyable to contemplate than the current political environment. (Bernie excepted.) Here's a link to my recent review of Vollmann's new and very good novel. THE LUCKY STAR:

The Confession of Faith

It is 6:15 PM Friday night here in West Michigan. A cold night, but no snow or rain. It is predicted to be a sunny cold day tomorrow unless the Lord Jesus comes back for His Bride the Church.

Recently in my Youtube channel I discussed the Westminster Standards, which are the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Larger and Shorter Catechism. I mentioned these conservative Presbyterian Confessions because I have been reading lately from a book titled, 'Unity And Continuity In Covenantal Thought: A Study in the Reformed Tradition to the Westminster Assembly' by Andrew A. Woolsey. In that recently video someone commented that would like me to list books on expositions of the Westminster Confession of Faith. This evening I dug some of those type of theological books out of our library. Over the years we have mainly sat under Dutch Reformed Confessional doctrinal sermons, which come of the Three Forms of Unity-The Belgic Confession, Canons of Dort, and the Heidelberg Catechism.

I will list some of the books we have that would enable someone to dig deep into the Westminster Confession of Faith-

'The Confession Of Faith The Larger And Shorter Catechisms With The Scripture Proofs At Large Together With The Sum Of Saving Knowledge' published by the Free Presbyterian Publications

'An Exposition Of The Confession Of Faith Of The Westminster Assembly Of Divines' by Robert Shaw D.D. First Published in 1845 Reprinted in 1973

'The Confession of Faith: A Handbook of Christian Doctrine Expounding The Westminster Confession' by A. A. Hodge, D.D. Formerly Professor of Systematic Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary

'The Presbyterian Standards: An Exposition Of The Westminster Confession Of Faith And Catechisms' By Francis R. Beattie

'The Westminster Assembly And Its Work' By Benjamin Breckinridge Warfield Professor of Didactic and Polemic Theology in the Theological Seminary of Princeton, New Jersey 1887-1921 Volume VI THE WORKS OF BENJAMIN B. WARFIELD

'Commentary On The Larger Catechism' Two Volumes By Thomas Ridgeley published in the early 18th century reprinted in 1993

'History Of The Westminster Assembly Of Divines' by William M. Hetherington

'The Westminster Assembly : It's History And Standards' The Baird Lecture for 1882 By Alexander F. Mitchell

'The Westminster Confession Of Faith For Study Classes' by G. I. Williamson

'The Shorter Catechism: Volume 1: Questions 1-38' by G. I. Williamson

'The Shorter Catechism: Volume 2: Questions 39-107' by G.I. Williamson
