the plague within

It is in the flow of existence 7:38 AM Tuesday morning. It is in the 60's outside this morning and it is a damp gray day. Once again we are suppose to have rain today. It was predicted to rain yesterday, but it did not rain. All we can do is wait and see what develops.

I got up around 6:15 AM this morning. I made myself a pot of coffee and then messed with our main computer. After messing with our computer I wrote in my paper diary and then made a small pot of oatmeal. This morning I meet with my friend Tim for breakfast around 9 o'clock AM.

I have been seeking to read these books for morning worship lately.

Bible

"Sanctification: Explorations In Theology And Practice" Edited By Kelly M. Kapic

"Paul's Divine Christology" by Chris Tilling

"Becoming the Gospel: Paul, Participation, and Mission" by Michael J. Gorman

"Galatians And Christian Theology: Justification, the Gospel, and Ethics in Paul's Letter" Edited By Mark W. Elliott, Scott J. Hafemann, N. T. Wright And John Frederick

Yesterday morning I read for devotions, "Sanctification: Explorations In Theology And Practice" Edited By Kelly M.
Kapic.

Last night I wrote in LJ and read "Unpacking The Boxes: A Memoir of a Life in Poetry" by Donald Hall.

One thing I have noticed lately is how many Americans hate biblical Christianity. We are truly in the Last Days.

Well I will close to seek the Lord. God is absolutely sovereign.

"[14] Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
[15] For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
[16] To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
[17] For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ." 2 Corinthians 2:14-17

the greatest love story ever told

It is now 11:18 AM Tuesday morning. I am tired, but that is normal. I have been looking at a Puritan titled, "The Best Match or The Soul's Espousal to Christ" by Edward Pearse.

"2. The soul being thus divorced from the law and so fitted and prepared for Christ, then, the Spirit of God reveals and offers the Lord Jesus Christ in the promise of the Gospel as a better Husband to him. Now the blessed Spirit comes and does as Abraham's servant did, who was sent to take a wife for Isaac. He told Rebekah of his master's greatness, of his flocks and his herds, his silver and his gold, his men-servants and his maid-servants, and withal, that he had given all to Isaac; so the Spirit of God now sets before the soul the riches and greatness, the beauty and the excellency of the Lord Jesus Christ. He tells them what a full, what a sweet, what a rich, what an amiable one He is and, withal, tenders him to His embraces; He reveals and offers Him to him as one full of grace and truth, as one that has all fullness dwelling in Him, all fullness of life and peace, of righteousness and salvation, as One every way able to save him to the very utmost, which is that which Christ calls His "convincing the world of righteousness." He reveals and offers Him to him in the transcendent beauty, excellency, and amiableness of His person on the one hand, and in the glorious fullness, largeness and sufficiency of His grace and righteousness on the other hand. Thus, I say, He reveals and offers unto the soul, opens His glory, and causes it to shine before him so that now the soul sees in Christ that fullness, that beauty, that love, that amiableness, that sweetness which he never saw before.

Now the soul, as those, "behold His glory, as the glory of the only begotten Son, full of grace and truth"; yea, not only does He thus reveal Christ unto the soul, but fixes the soul's eye upon Him. He makes him to pore and gaze upon Christ as the most excellent and amiable object, and as one infinitely needful for him, and this is called "a seeing of the Son," and that in order to believing; "whosoever seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, shall have everlasting life." . . ." pg. 36,37 THE BEST MATCH by Edward Pearse

translations

Someone posted in LJ that the Bible no where condemns homosexuality. I quoted to the individual First Corinthians 6 verse 9 as one place of several in the Bible that clearly teaches homosexuality is a sin. The individual shot back and said I was quoting a translation of the Bible that did not match up with other translations of the Bible. Below I quote from several translations of the Bible on 1 Corinthians 6:9. To me I am not into following the opinions of men, but the eternal truths of the Bible. I remember these verses from Revelation, "Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and muderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood" Rev. 22:14,15.

My supreme desire as a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ is to be faithful to His Word. I know people out in the world hate the Bible and its teaching on the sin of homosexuality. I can either go along with the wicked or be faithful to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by confessing His Word in the face of the hatred of the world.

"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites" 1 Corinthians 6:9 [New King James translation/version]

"Have you forgotten that the kingdom of God will never belong to the wicked? Don't be under any illusion-neither the impure, the idolater, or the adulterer, neither the effeminate, the pervert" 1 Corinthians 6:9 [The New Testament in Modern English]

"Do you not know that unrighteous people will have no inheritance in the kingdom of God? Do not deceive yourselves: there will be no inheriting the kingdom of God for fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, or perverts" 1 Corinthians 6:9 ["An Expanded Paraphrase Of The Epistles Of Paul" by F. F. Bruce]

"You know perfectly well that people who do wrong will not inherit the kingdom of God: people of immoral lives, idolaters, adulterers, catamites, sodomites" 1 Corinth. 6:9 [The Jerusalem Bible] catamites meaning "a boy kept for the purpose of sexual perversion"

"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts" 1 Corinthians 6:9 [Revised Standard translation/version]

"Don't you know that those doing such things have no share in the Kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who live immoral lives, who are idol worshipers, adulterers or homosexuals" 1 Corinth. 6:9 [Living Bible paraphrase]

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals" 1 Corinth. 6:9 [New American Standard Version/translation]

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters; nor men who practice homosexuality" 1 Corinthians 6:9 [English Standard Version]

rarely but indeed occasionally catches sight of the flash of divine light

It is in the flow of God gathering His people into the Church 4:19 PM Tuesday afternoon. The nations might rage against the King of Glory the Lord Jesus Christ, but in the end He will reign forever and ever.

This afternoon I have been reading for worship, "On Contemplation" by Guigo De Ponte. I will quote from this treatise since it goes along with what I have been writing about lately on conversion and regeneration/the work of the Holy Spirit spiritual illumination.

"BOOK THREE Chapter Fifteen: Third Degree of Divinely Infused Speculation:Inventive Contemplation

What follows is concerned with the third degree, which should be evaluated according to the following information. The third state is contemplation that finds, since it begins there where the godly spirit is suddenly carried away to a vision of divine glory, as the preceding chapters have explained. The godly spirit herself, through the practices of the second stage, rarely but indeed occasionally catches sight of the flash of divine light as she is lit up by the rays of divine grace. One may indeed frequently have the prospect of this envisioning contemplation in sight, when the godly favor of heavenly dignity smiles, but it seems that one rarely arrives at the aforementioned view of the supreme Truth, since, if one attains a bit of it, one immediately slips back into what is darkness compared with the light just seen. This does not involve slipping back all the way to the situation of general human thoughts nor even as far as the first step mentioned above [attentive consideration], but it is a return and withdrawal to a certain lofty state between the sapiential stage [alluring meditation] and the scintillating stage. The third degree can be called the flashing [scintillaris] stage, not because the godly spirit sees the flash of truth but because she is very close to seeing it. Yet sometimes in this in-between state her eyes are indeed opened to catch a glimpse of the gleam of truth before she completely returns to herself. One might also say-most accurately indeed-that this state has a view towards the lower, sapiential stage. For just as the godly spirit reaches the very threshold of the scintillating stage by ascending through the sapiential stage, so in retreating from the scintillating stage she descends to the very threshold of the sapiential stage." pg. 235, 236 Guigo De Ponte

Jesus The Very Thought Of Thee

Jesus, the very thought of Thee
With sweetness fills the breast;
But sweeter far Thy face to see,
And in Thy presence rest.

Nor voice can sing, nor heart can frame,
Nor can the memory find
A sweeter sound than Thy blest name,
O Savior of mankind!

O hope of every contrite heart,
O joy of all the meek,
To those who fall, how kind Thou art!
How good to those who seek!

But what to those who find? Ah, this
Nor tongue nor pen can show;
The love of Jesus, what it is,
None but His loved ones know.

Jesus, our only joy be Thou,
As Thou our prize will be;
Jesus be Thou our glory now,
And through eternity.

O Jesus, King most wonderful
Thou Conqueror renowned,
Thou sweetness most ineffable
In whom all joys are found!

When once Thou visitest the heart,
Then truth begins to shine,
Then earthly vanities depart,
Then kindles love divine.

O Jesus, light of all below,
Thou fount of living fire,
Surpassing all the joys we know,
And all we can desire.

Jesus, may all confess Thy name,
Thy wondrous love adore,
And, seeking Thee, themselves inflame
To seek Thee more and more.

Thee, Jesus, may our voices bless,
Thee may we love alone,
And ever in our lives express
The image of Thine own.

O Jesus, Thou the beauty art
Of angel worlds above;
Thy name is music to the heart,
Inflaming it with love.

Celestial sweetness unalloyed,
Who eat Thee hunger still;
Who drink of Thee still feel a void
Which only Thou canst fill.

O most sweet Jesus, hear the sighs
Which unto Thee we send;
To Thee our inmost spirit cries;
To Thee our prayers ascend.

Abide with us, and let Thy light
Shine, Lord, on every heart;
Dispel the darkness of our night;
And joy to all impart.

Jesus, our love and joy to Thee,
The virgin’s holy Son,
All might and praise and glory be,
While endless ages run.

same sex marriage

It is 7:24 PM Tuesday evening. I was thinking about same sex marriage. I can see people who are not Christians and who are homosexuals getting married. I know there are people who worship idols who marry idolaters. There are people who are adulterers who marry people who are adulterers. I suppose as a Christian a Christian should marry people who are Christians. A true Christian by being a Christian has to follow the biblical pattern of a family structure. The New Testament sets forth marriage as being between a man and a woman. The Bible/New Testament does not set forth marriage being between people of the same sex/homosexuals marrying homosexuals. Now I can see living in a society that is morally corrupt allowing or making it legal for homosexuals to marry other homosexuals. As a Christian I have to say that from a biblical perspective that is not God's view of marriage. But I can see it as how people who are not Christians going against God's view of marriage and marrying people of the same sex.

I know from history men have lived with men in a homosexual relationship being not married. That is also true of women living in a sexual relationship with another woman. Christians if they are going to be true to the Bible have to say that homosexuality is a sin the same as adultery, idolatry, greed, the list of sins would be endless.

Now I know people who are not Christians and reject the Bible will do what they want to do meaning live contrary to the teachings of the Bible. These unconverted people will marry whoever they want regardless of what the Bible teaches. It always has been this way. I still think a Christian or Christians have the right to voice their views even if the unconverted think they are full of crap.

I do not think we can make people live moral lives by making laws. I do think though the Government has the duty to follow the teachings of the Bible when it comes to righteousness and justice. But once again I recognize the American Government is morally corrupt and will pass laws that are contrary to biblical morality. We read in the newspapers these days of the Government taking down monuments that have engraved on them the Moral Law/Ten Commandments. Once the US Government rejects God's Law we are ruled by the immoral majority. So as a Christian we must be grieved by all the lawlessness around us, but at the same time we know that is the way of the ungodly.

I do not know if a Government should give homosexuals legal rights. If a Government is totally given over to wickedness how can a Christian expect the Government to do what is biblically God honoring? If the majority of people have given themselves over to the lusts of the flesh they would want a Government that would make it legal for them to pursue the satisfaction of their corrupt lusts/live in a state of lawlessness. All a Christian can do in such a society is pray for the Second Coming of Christ and be salt and light where ever the Lord has planted him.
